Took the old bugger for it’s biennial service, they want to send it to Switzerland for at least 5 months and replace a shit-ton of things but the dial, case and movement. My power reserve is down by 24 hours, so it needs checking. The wallet hurts.

Gorgeous watch

5 Months, apparently the Breitling retailers in Brazil are not allowed to perform the full inspection, so they need to inspect it in Switzerland, and then they need to find parts for a 1993 NOS Shark and tons of other things.

daaaamn that is one sweet watch man!
I’ve always preferred leather-banded to metal banded watches.
That said, my stepdad’s Omega Seamaster is a beautiful piece of timekeeping tech.
I make do with a nautical diver's watch, and a Citizen eco drive for daily use; but I do have a very simple black face black band IWC Schaffhausen for those special occasions

Can I ask how much?

The estimate is $500-$650, bit less than what I paid to service the Mk4.5 Speedy but still a bit steep.

Thank you, it was quite a nice find, 1993 single owner (technically NOS) with original box and papers .

Thanks! I was very lucky to find it. I like both Metal and Leather bands, rubber bands are not really my thing though.
Any picture of that IWC? They are unbeatable pilot watches, even better than Breitlings IMO.

Did you find what you were looking for in Miami?
![]() 08/25/2015 at 22:19 |

Nah, the Dollar rise over the Real made anything I wanted a little cost prohibitive, I’m probably going to use the money for something more useful, like fixing all my unreliable things.

In the thumbnail this looks like a lemur.

Haha, is the Range Rover doing well?

How much is there to replace other than the dial, case, and movement?
![]() 08/25/2015 at 22:37 |

I need the movement serviced as my power reserve is a bit wonky, also new hands, new band (real croco leather/shark leather) and new glass, probably a new bezel if they can find one.

A very mechanical lemur. It does have a “Panda Dial"

Surprisingly well, it has the occasional “things don’t work at random but suddenly come to life after a few minutes”. Air Suspension is fine and so are the gearbox and all the other important bits.

My dad is an AWCI certified horologist. I’d recommend his services, but he has a 12+ month waiting list.

Also, I’d probably have to find a way to privately ship it to the US, and I’m very skeptical about that.

Honestly, that seems cheap for something that takes so long...
Possibly better than swapping in the internals from a $5 convenience store watch and calling it close enough.

I think I have a pic of the IWC on my phone, i’ll re-reply if I can find it! I adore mine. it was my stepdad’s, but he rarely uses it, so I’ve adopted it as mine.
It was perfect timing, as my Tissot got stolen from my school locker room a few weeks before homecoming, so I started using the IWC, not really realizing it's value

Sadly, no picture on my phone :(
Remind me at some point to get you a photo. It’s in the safe now. And I can’t get it..
Closest you’ll get is this picture of me from prom...
